350 ACTION PETITIONS THE W.M.O. TO NAME HURRICANES AFTER ACTUAL POLITICIANS WHO DENY CLIMATE CHANGE

In order to increase awareness of climate change and its link to extreme storms, 350 ACTION is petitioning the World Meteorological Organization to change their naming system of storms from randomly selected names, such as Katrina and Sandy, to the names of actual policy makers who deny climate change.

The campaign, at ClimateNameChange.org, kicks off with a video that brings the proposed naming system to life and features prominent climate deniers like Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH).

At the heart of the campaign and the site, is an actual petition to the World Meteorological Organization that visitors are encouraged to sign. When enough signatures are gathered, the petition will be presented to the W.M.O. in hopes that the new naming system could become a reality.

The campaign, created in conjunction with advertising agency Barton F. Graf 9000, also features extensive facts about climate change, voting records of climate change deniers and obstructionists and more ways to get involved and help spread the news.

“It’s a new day but some songs remain the same. Congress used to have tobacco addition deniers, now it has far too many climate deniers” said 350 Action policy director Jason Kowlaski.
