VP Kamala Harris Accepts the Democratic Party’s Nomination for President

Chicago, IL — Last night, Vice President Kamala Harris officially accepted the Democratic party’s nomination for president.

JL Andrepont of 350 Action responds:

“In just one month, VP Harris has energized the electorate and helped restore a sense of hope, momentum, and possibility. She has now officially accepted the Democratic party’s nomination. With that comes immense responsibility. 350 Action has endorsed the Harris/Walz ticket because we know that this campaign represents a real chance to stave off the worst of the unfolding climate catastrophe; to avoid the escalating destruction of American government laid out in Project 2025; and to usher in real social, political, and economic progress. We are excited about Harris’ historic candidacy and this chance to push the fossil fuel industry out of the Democratic Party.

As she accepted the nomination, Harris stated that people deserve freedom from the pollution causing climate change. We know from Harris’ past career that she listens to climate science and knows exactly who is responsible for that pollution. To realize that freedom, there is much more still to do to build on the historic investments in renewable energy that the Inflation Reduction Act represents.

VP Harris presents our first chance to have a climate president with a documented history of taking on Big Oil and standing up to the destructive interests that place disproportionate impact on frontline communities. As we work to get VP Harris and other climate champions elected, we will keep reminding them that our movement is watching, and we must invest in intersectional, local and international climate justice.

The world we seek is ours to build—and as the climate crisis worsens with each passing day, we need to fight for our best possible chance to get to build it. That starts with electing VP Harris for president, taking back the House, and holding the Senate to prevent Trump from enacting the draconian vision laid out in Project 2025. As Harris herself said, ‘the clock is not just ticking, it’s banging.’ It’s time to fight for the people and the planet.”
