For Immediate Release

Tuesday, November 12, 2019

Brooklyn, NY 350 Action, a national organization dedicated to propelling transformative political action on the climate crisis, has launched our 2019-2020 endorsements process for Presidential and Congressional races.

350 Action will be endorsing candidates who have voiced and demonstrated their commitment to progressive action on climate change, by supporting a just transition away from fossil fuels towards 100% renewable energy that centers workers through a Green New Deal, and advocating to keep fossil fuels in the ground.

This week, 350 Action is endorsing the following candidates:

  • Jessica Cisneros, Democrat running for the 28th Congressional District in Texas, on a platform that includes immigration reform and the Green New Deal.
  • Jamaal Bowman, Democrat running for the 16th Congressional District in New York, on a platform that includes ending the school-to-prison pipeline and the Green New Deal.
  • Alex Morse, Holyoke Mayor running for the 1st District in Massachusetts against longstanding incumbent Richard Neal, on a platform that includes free public college and the Green New Deal.

The following is a statement from Tamara Toles O’ Laughlin, North America Director for 350 Action:

“The candidates we are endorsing are progressive climate champions, promising the climate leadership required to address the crisis and take us into the climate decade. They are candidates who support the Green New Deal and reject fossil fuel money; who will push for a just transition that protects workers; who understand that those who have done the least to enable climate change, now suffer the most for it.

For years we have seen the Trump administration empower climate deniers and fossil fuel profiteers, at a devastating cost to frontline, Indigenous, and poor communities. We have seen relentless rollbacks of critical climate protections, while hurricanes have flooded homes and wildfires have burned away entire towns. This is why 350 Action won’t stop with endorsing, but will continue to empower climate voters to demand the leadership they deserve and hold elected officials accountable to their promises.”

350 Action endorses Jessica Cisneros, Democrat running for the 28th Congressional District in Texas, on a platform of immigration reform and workers rights. Here is her response to our candidate questionnaire:

“We need to pass the Green New Deal resolution as proposed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ed Markey. The Green New Deal is the only proposal that deals with climate change at the scope and scale of the problem that faces the planet and the US in an inclusive fashion that also deals with racism, employment, and poverty.”

350 Action endorses Jamaal Bowman, Democrat running for the 16th Congressional District in New York. Here is his response to our candidate questionnaire:

I support a moratorium on all new fossil fuel infrastructure, including all elements listed above. I also support a federal ban on fracking, as this practice not only hurts our environment at the macro level, but also has serious, well-documented consequences for individuals living near fracking sites. I also support taxing fossil fuel companies to subsidize the transition to renewable energy.”

350 Action endorses Alex Morse, Holyoke Mayor running for the 1st District in Massachusetts against longstanding incumbent Richard Neal. Here is his response to our candidate questionnaire:

“As Mayor, I committed Holyoke to becoming the first 100% renewable energy city in Massachusetts, even though we have the lowest median household income in the state. This is because my administration recognizes the immediate threat of climate change, as well as the opportunity that exists for equitable economic revitalization within a Green New Deal and a green economy.”
