350 Action & 350 Mass Action Endorse Michelle Wu for Boston Mayor

Boston, MA — 350 Action and 350 Mass Action endorse candidates who have demonstrated their commitment to progressive action on climate change, by supporting a just transition away from fossil fuels towards 100% renewable energy that centers racial justice, a Green New Deal, and advocates to keep fossil fuels in the ground.

Today, 350 Mass Action and 350 Action are endorsing Michelle Wu, a Democrat running for Mayor of Boston, Massachusetts on a platform that includes support for a Green New Deal, fossil fuel divestment, a moratorium on all fossil fuel projects, and more.

The following is a statement from Natalie Mebane, 350 Action Policy Director:

“350 Action is proud to endorse Michelle Wu for Mayor of Boston. Wu understands that climate justice is racial and economic justice. Wu has proposed the first ever comprehensive city-level Green New Deal in the country, laying out a policy roadmap for delivering the kinds of structural changes we need to build sustainable energy, good jobs, and healthy, connected communities.

“Wu understands that though climate change is a global problem that affects everyone, it does not affect us all equally. Communities of color are the most impacted by the worst effects of climate change, and Wu knows that we must fight for racial justice and environmental justice simultaneously. Wu will be a champion for justice, people and the planet.”

The Boston chapter of 350 Mass Action, added:

“The Boston chapter of 350 Mass Action is pleased to announce our endorsement of Michelle Wu for mayor of Boston. Michelle has been a long-time supporter of climate action. She has proposed a far-reaching Green New Deal plan for Boston and is a strong supporter of actions for climate justice. We are pleased to be working together with 350 Action on this important endorsement.”

Here is Michelle Wu’s response to 350 Action’s candidate questionnaire:

“As Mayor I will see to it that Boston does everything in its power to achieve climate justice in our communities and will push the state and federal government to adopt the measures required to avert the climate crisis. Boston will be ready to meet with kindness and care for people whose lives have been upended by the tragic impacts of climate change.”
