350 Action Endorses Jumaane Williams for New York City Public Advocate

New York, NY — Today, 350 Action, a national organization working to change the politics of climate change, endorsed Jumaane Williams, candidate for New York City Public Advocate.

Ahead of the February 26 New York City Public Advocate special election, Lindsay Meiman, 350 Action spokesperson and native New Yorker, issued the following statement:

“Jumaane Williams is the best candidate to deliver climate justice for New Yorkers. From supporting 100% renewable energy to calling for a halt on toxic fossil fuel projects like the Williams fracked gas pipeline, and pushing forward divestment of the city’s pension funds, there’s no doubt Jumaane would use this office to protect our communities and deliver concrete, sweeping action on the climate crisis. Jumaane is a transparent, bold, and visionary voice for the people.”

In his questionnaire, Williams said:

“As Public Advocate… [I]..  will continue to push for New York City to be a leader in halting the growth of the fossil industry.

“At present, New York City operates on an $89 billion budget. I would continually push the City to devote those resources to supporting the growth of 100% renewable energy and use the investigatory powers of the Public Advocate’s office to continually monitor their efforts, publicizing which agencies are succeeding and which are dragging their heels. Last year I put out plan for the state to raise $20 Billion, part of which could be used to build renewable energy infrastructure.”
