New York, NY — On Tuesday night, vice presidential candidates Tim Walz and JD Vance met in NYC to debate topics from climate change to immigration.
JL Andrepont of 350 Action responds:
“Thanks to pressure from our climate partners and the prevalence of devastating climate disasters, climate change showed up much earlier and more prominently in the vice presidential debate than in the presidential. Hurricane Helene has decimated the southeastern United States. Yet days after people drowned in their own homes, Senator JD Vance doubled down on treating climate change as a hypothetical. Trump and Vance are gaslighting the American people. Between their belief that ‘climate change is a hoax’ and their Project 2025 plans to shutdown NOAA and FEMA, it would be profoundly dangerous for them to take office.
Governor Tim Walz may have given an imperfect debate performance and have an imperfect climate record, but, just like VP Kamala Harris, he knows and believes in climate science. So a Harris-Walz administration will give us critical room to move—to fight for the most impacted people and our planet in a way that a Trump-Vance administration absolutely will not.”
