Senator Rubio’s statement directly contradicts….just about everybody, including the vast majority of the world’s scientific community, faith leaders such as the Pope, and much of the world’s political establishment, who all agree that the economy must transition away from fossil fuels in order to prevent catastrophic climate change.

The full dialogue reads:

Amina Hughes: Do you believe believe that burning fossil fuels and coal and burning oil is contributing to climate change?

Senator Rubio: It doesn’t matter.

Hughes: It doesn’t matter?

Rubio: The bottom line is that we need to be economically competitive. We’re cleaner than India, we’re cleaner than China.

Jordan Cichon: There is overwhelming scientific evidence that shows that climate change is caused by…

Rubio: I’m not going to destroy our economy guys, for some wacky law.

350 Action is working in primary states to urge candidates for president to take bold action on climate change by pledging to keep fossil fuels in the ground and support a just transition to a 100% renewable energy.
