Donald Trump’s presidency has been a disaster for our climate and our communities. But if there is a silver lining, it’s that his devastating election has mobilized a historic wave of resistance — a wave that’s been showing up in the streets, in local organizing, and in voting booths across the country. And the momentum is building.
Progressive candidates have already won major victories since Trump took office — thanks to a wave of people-powered support.
Today, 350 Action is excited to endorse two more climate progressives committed to the fight for the fossil free world we need: Marie Newman, Democrat for Congress in Illinois’ 3rd District, and Greg Edwards, Democrat for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 7th.
Last week, 350 Action endorsed our first candidates of 2018: Deb Haaland, who’s running to represent New Mexico’s 1st District and would be the first Native American woman in Congress, and Ben Jealous, a civil rights and climate justice leader who’s running for Governor of Maryland.
Like Deb and Ben, Marie and Greg understand that the climate crisis isn’t just about carbon — it’s about people. Here’s why 350 is proud to endorse these progressive climate champions:
- Marie Newman is running on a platform of transitioning to 100% renewable energy, “Medicare for All,” and raising the minimum wage to at least $15 — and her opponent in Tuesday’s primary is a conservative Democrat who supported Keystone XL.
- Greg Edwards is is a community organizer and pastor who has pledged to refuse donations from the fossil fuel industry. He is an outspoken pipeline fighter in a district crisscrossed by fracked gas pipelines.
Primary elections in Illinois are next Tuesday, March 20 — and Pennsylvania’s primary elections are coming up in May. This is a critical moment for us to stand up for leaders like Marie and Greg while we continue the fight for a just, fossil free world in our own communities.
That’s why this spring, summer, and fall, 350 Action — working with local leaders and community groups across the country — will be helping mobilize our movement to get climate progressives like Marie, Greg, Deb, and Ben elected to office. Let’s get to work.
There are two more small ways you can take action today to help elect climate progressives like Greg and Marie:
- Help spread the word and show that our movement stands with these progressive champions by sharing this post on Facebook or retweeting this tweet to build the momentum.
- Make a donation to 350 Action to help us fight for bold progressive leaders our climate and our communities can count on in this critical election year.
