In response to published comments made today by Hillary Clinton on Keystone XL and American energy infrastructure, 350 Action Executive Director May Boeve issued the following statement:
“It’s important that Hillary Clinton isn’t just opposing Keystone XL, but rejecting it because of its impact on the climate. President Obama said he’d reject the pipeline if it had a serious climate impact, and his former Secretary of State clearly thinks it does. It’s high time Obama made the final call.
“Combined with her stance on Arctic drilling, and a real commitment to renewable energy, these ideas are genuinely promising. But if solving climate change is half about kick-starting the good, and half getting rid of the bad, we’re still looking for the rest of Hillary Clinton’s plan — to stand up to fossil fuel companies by committing to keep vast majorities of known carbon reserves underground.”
