2018's Climate Hotspots

From Washington to Nebraska to Florida, some of this year’s most important races are climate hotspots — where climate change is very much on the ballot. From opportunities to replace climate deniers with progressive leaders to ballot initiatives that would stop fracking in its tracks, no matter the story, these are the races to watch if you care about climate justice. “As a Native American woman, I will lead and join all efforts to keep fossil fuels in the ground. I will also bring my unique voice to the frontlines of rallies, marches, and actions.”

Deb Haaland was one of 350 Action’s first endorsements. Her platform calls for a transition to 100% renewable energy. She has pledged to stand against all new fossil fuel infrastructure and for the rights of Indigenous peoples opposing the construction of pipelines in their homelands.

She is a proud member of the Laguna Pueblo, and is poised to be the first Native American woman ever elected to Congress. As chairwoman of the New Mexico Democrats, she helped progressives take back the state legislature in 2016.
