Mandela Barnes has a strong record of taking the climate crisis seriously. As a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, he made it a priority to fight for Wisoconsin’s environment, earning a 100% lifetime score on Wisconsin Conservation Voters’ scorecard. As Wisconsin’s Lieutenant Governor, he chaired the Task Force on Climate Change that issued 55 different concrete strategies for Wisconsin to prepare for a warming world and prioritized environmental justice so that communities of color and low-income communities – who too often experience the first and worst consequences climate change – are part of the conversation and the solution.
Mandela Barnes is an environmental champion who will prioritize the health and well-being of communities instead of polluters and their profits. Mandela Barnes has stated, “My story wouldn’t be possible without the good-paying manufacturing jobs that were created in Wisconsin when Congress took bold action to curb climate change with the Clean Air Act. Together with our family farmers, workers, unions, and advocates, we will put Wisconsin back on track to lead the nation with innovative manufacturing and farming.” He also signed the no Fossil Fuel Money pledge. In his Senate campaign, he has made climate a key issue, including calling for a Green New Deal that will work for Wisconsin and create jobs in every corner of the state by addressing the climate crisis and investing in clean energy.
