Climate Activists Nationwide Lend Support to Perriello After Trump’s Paris Accord Exit

Washington, DC — In response to Trump’s decision to exit the Paris climate agreement, 350 Action supporters in all 50 states are calling Virginia voters today to encourage them to vote for Perriello over Northam in Tuesday’s gubernatorial primary. The next Governor of Virginia will have the power to stop two fracked gas pipelines that are incompatible with the climate commitments made in Paris by President Obama.

350 Action Policy Director Jason Kowalski gave the following statement:

“With Trump pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement, the outcomes of state elections like this are more important than ever. Upholding the goals of Paris — and going beyond them — means electing officials who are willing to take a stand against new fossil fuel projects, and Tom Perriello gets that. He’s strong on progressive issues and is taking bold climate action, like opposing the Atlantic Coast pipeline and refusing donations from fossil fuel companies. Perriello is ready to resist Trump’s vision of a more-polluted, pipeline-filled America, and to move our country toward the clean energy future we need. The stakes are higher than ever, and Tom Perriello is the right choice.”
