Natalie Mebane, 350 Action’s Associate Director of U.S. Policy, gave the following statement:
“To drastically shift course toward a renewable energy future that works for everyone, we need people in office ready to back bold climate action that centers racial and economic justice. All of these candidates have committed to supporting strong climate policy like a Green New Deal and challenging the outsized influence of fossil fuel corporations in our government. These are the climate champions who can help ensure a just recovery from the climate crisis, COVID-19, and racial injustice.”
350 Action endorses Andrew Romanoff, Democratic candidate from Colorado for U.S. Senate, who is running on a platform supporting the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and more. Here is his response to our candidate questionnaire on centering racial, economic, and social justice in climate policies:
“I entered the Democratic primary in February 2019 as a proponent of the Green New Deal and I continue to support the racial, economic, and social justice principles at the core of this plan. Accordingly, I have been mentioning not just displaced fossil fuel workers when I discuss a just transition to a clean energy economy, but also the need to prioritize frontline communities–often communities of color or working class neighborhoods–as we fight the climate crisis.”
350 Action endorses Mondaire Jones, Democratic candidate for the U.S. House in New York’s 17th district, running on a platform supporting a Green New Deal, reproductive justice, Medicare for All, and more. Here is his response to our candidate questionnaire on supporting a moratorium on new fossil fuel projects:
“We believe there is no middle ground with the fossil fuel industry, and that their nods to things like carbon capture and decarbonization are ways to bide time and gaslight. Just last month, ExxonMobil announced with glee the discovery of new oil fields off the coast of Guyana. Our campaign stands for a definitive end to the fossil fuel industry in the shortest possible time frame and 100% replacement of the industry with renewables and an accompanying smart-grid.”
