Bernie Sanders Announces Opposition to Sandpiper and Alberta Clipper Oil Pipelines

Minneapolis, MN — In response to Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders announcing his opposition to the Sandpiper and Alberta Clipper oil pipelines, Jason Kowalski, 350 Action spokesperson issued the following statement:

“The litmus test of climate leadership in 2016 is keeping fossil fuels in the ground. Once again Senator Sanders has come out against new fossil fuel infrastructure that would exacerbate the climate crisis. President Obama rejected the Keystone XL pipeline because of the devastating impacts it would have on our climate and our communities, and the Sandpiper and Clipper Pipelines are not much different.”

The Sandpiper pipeline would carry fracked oil from North Dakota, and Clipper would carry tar sands oil from Alberta, similar to Keystone XL. Together, they would transport over 1.4 million barrels of oil per day.
