350 Action Endorses Eva Putzova (AZ-01) and Jennifer Perelman (FL-23) for the House in 2020

Brooklyn, NY — 350 Action is endorsing candidates who have demonstrated their commitment to progressive action on climate change, by supporting a just transition away from fossil fuels towards 100% renewable energy that centers a Green New Deal, and advocates to keep fossil fuels in the ground. You can find 350 Action’s other 2020 endorsements here.

This week, 350 Action is endorsing the following candidates:

  • Eva Putzova, Democratic candidate running for the House in Arizona’s 1st District
  • Jennifer Perelman, Democratic candidate running for the House in Florida’s 23rd District

The following is a statement from 350 Action’s Policy Director, Natalie Mebane:

“The 2020 election, across all levels of government, is an unprecedented opportunity to introduce into Congress a climate champion class that is the gold standard of political leadership for climate justice. For 350 Action, it’s especially critical that the candidates we endorse don’t just understand the scale of the climate crisis, but that they match their climate policy with progressive policies on issues like economic justice, education, and healthcare.

“Putzova and Perelman are not only promising us the kind of bold policies that will help communities implement a just transition to the 100 percent renewable energy economy, but they’re marrying these policies to advocacy for First Nations communities, demilitarization, and more.”

350 Action endorses Eva Putzova, Democrat candidate running for the House in Arizona’s 1st DIstrict on a platform that includes “No More Wars” and “First People First,” as well as the Green New Deal. Here is her response to the 350 Action candidate questionnaire:

“Scientists give us 10 years to drastically reduce our carbon emissions to avoid a world-wide climate disaster. A Green New Deal will completely overhaul and retool our entire transportation and energy infrastructure by making massive investments in renewable energy to replace oil, gas, and nuclear energy. It is even more meaningful to me in that it would create millions of jobs in those communities that need it most.”

350 Action endorses Jennifer Perelman, Democrat candidate running for the House in Florida’s 23rd District, on a platform that includes tuition-free higher education and the Green New Deal. Here is her response to the 350 Action candidate questionnaire:

“I would support national legislation to stop the construction of fossil fuel infrastructure, but we can also pay farmers to keep carbon in the ground.  Bringing our carbon footprint to zero will require all hands on deck, so we need a lot of tools in our tool-belt. To induce cooperation from states and municipalities, I support a carrots and sticks approach that offers additional TANF funding for participation and withholds transportation infrastructure funding for those who refuse to cooperate. The Green New Deal must be met with a bureaucracy that has teeth and will fight the construction of any new fossil fuel infrastructure.”
